At Westfield, we want our children to love science and recognise the importance of Science in every aspect of daily life. As one of the core subjects taught in Primary Schools, we give the teaching and learning of Science the prominence it requires. Science Education at Westfield Community Primary School seeks to ensure that, alongside scientific knowledge, all children develop positive attitudes and dispositions towards science. All children in Key Stages 1 and 2 enjoy exciting and thought-provoking weekly science lessons where they can learn through being hands-on and finding things out for themselves — the perfect way to understand the world around them. In EYFS, science is included within the Understanding the World area of learning where children learn about science through games and play. As a subject, science impacts upon every aspect of our children’s lives and plays a crucial role in developing caring and understanding citizens of tomorrow. In line with our curriculum driver of aspirations, we want children to have no limits to what their ambitions are and grow up wanting to be doctors, nurses, vets, dentists, engineers, work in medical research , be volcanologists and astronauts! |
